5K Fitness Walking

 

NEW this Winter season, we are introducing a 5k Fitness Walking group!

Join us weekly for an hour of speed walking, various fitness activities, social interactions, and FUN! Meet at different locations across central Ottawa and enjoy the beautiful landscapes.


Our 6-week program is geared towards improving your physical fitness through paced walking, whether you are looking to get active for the first time or are an experienced walker looking for a fun group.

The focus is to increase your heart rate while enjoying the company of fellow walkers in the community.

COVID-19 PROTOCOL


All participants must adhere to physical distancing procedures and safety protocols when on site. 


Session I Registration Deadline is Thursday, January 14th @ midnight!

Session II Registration Deadline is Thursday, February 25th @ midnight!

COVID-19 Protocol & Safe Return

We are committed to providing the highest levels of safety for our community.  

 

To ensure player and staff safety, we have implemented mandatory 'Safe Return to Play Protocol & Guidelines' for all Club Activities.  In order to participate with the Ottawa Sport & Social Club and stay in good standing, the following guidelines MUST be followed.  A zero-tolerance policy is in place for those who challenge these decisions.   

 

To ensure a successful season, please remember to practice safe physical distancing and a positive attitude!


All participants are required to read, understand and adhere to the following:

4 - Self Screening Tool (done before each hike). 

 

As well as:

  • Facility specific COVID-19 Protocols (you can find these protocols in the facility link in your schedule once live). 

Start/End Dates

Session I:

Monday:
Starts Monday, January 18 and ends Monday, March 1.

Tuesday: Starts Tuesday, January 19 and ends Tuesday, February 23.

Session II:

Monday: Starts Monday, March 8 and ends April 26.

Tuesday: Starts Tuesday, March 2 and ends April 13.

Session I: 6 weeks.

Session II: 6 weeks.

Start Times

6:30pm - 7:30pm.

Each walk is 1 hour in length.

Groups can continue the fun and meet afterwards for a drink of choice (coffee, tea, beer, etc) at the near by pub or café. 

Price

$60.00 + HST.

Bye dates

Monday, February 15 (Family Day).

Monday, March 15 & Tuesday, March 16 (March Break).

Monday, April 5 (Easter Monday).

Schedule

The meet up location will be posted online and sent to participants two days prior to the walk, along with specific COVID-19 facility protocols.

Details

This is a outdoor social program.

 

Participants will be sent the meeting point ahead of time. Participants will meet the OSSC Representative and will embark the walk as a group.

 

Open skill level, everyone welcome. 

Mandatory Requirements

COVID-19 LEAGUE MODIFICATIONS  - Each league has specific mandatory roster requirements.  

  • This program will have a maximum of 25 participants per group (would be revised if there are changes to Provincial guidelines).  Once the first week has gone by, no additional participants will be added to the program.  

1) All participants are required to sign the waiver.

 

2) Hike day wellness checks “COVID-19 Self Screening” must be completed by all players prior to participation.

 

3) Participants must maintain physical distancing of 2-meters before, during and after all activities.  This includes arriving on-site, hiking, resting/sitting, and departing the location.

 

4) No Spectators are allowed under any circumstance (this includes kids, family, friends, etc). Only registered participants are able to participate.

Equipment Requirements

Participants are required to wash/sanitize their hands before and after each walk. Do not share water bottles, snacks or warm clothing with others.

Participants should wear a comfortable pair of shoes and clothing that suits the weather.

COVID-19 RULE MODIFICATIONS - Please refer to the sport rules page to view league rules.  It is the responsibility of all players to read and understand the sport specific rules as well as the general rules & club policies.

Walks will take place at one of these locations (but not limited to):

Dowe's Lake, Parliament Hill, Aviation/Rockliffe Parkway, Rideau Canal.
